European Union. The European Patent Office and the Russian Patent Office have agreed on next steps to launch EU-funded project

The Russian Patent Office (Rospatent), the European Commission and the European Patent Office (EPO) have agreed on the next steps in the launching of an EU-funded project meant to harmonise the Russian and EU patent systems. The project is intended to study current Russian patent legislation and make recommendations about how to make Russian patent legislation and European patent legislation compatible.

During the first meeting, held in Moscow, the parties decided to arrange a seminar and publish a booklet on the outcomes of this study. Furthermore, they decided to draft patent guidelines for the Rospatent patent examiners to make examination procedure more transparent. The parties also agreed to organise training to facilitate the teaching of management and economics of intellectual property in Russia.
