European Union. Commissioner Geoghegan-Quinn shows determination to link science, research and innovation to market

The newly appointed Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation, Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, emphasised Europe’s determination to link science and research to the market while speaking at an event at the American Chamber of Commerce.

Mrs Geoghegan-Quinn also expressed the European Union’s aim to connect the links in the innovation chain: generation of ideas, financing and the protection of intellectual property rights. This implies, among other measures, providing all countries, as well as small & medium enterprises (SMEs), with more support and access to European research while linking inventions to commercial success through an effective, harmonised single market for services.

The new Commissioner also shared her aim to communicate regularly with the business community as she takes up her portfolio in the new Commission.
