European Union. "Key Figures 2003-2004" for Research and Innovation in Europe published

In November 2003, the Directorate-General for Research of the European Commission published the "Key Figures 2003-2004" for Research and Innovation in Europe.

This document gives information as for 1995-2001 about various aspects of the transitional process towards the European knowledge-based economy, such as the RTD (Research and Technological Development) human resources and investment and the impact of RTD on economic competitiveness and employment in current and future Member States, as well as in Candidate countries, the USA and Japan.

These "Key Figures" thus cover topics such as European and US patents, R&D investment flows and the level of RTD investment compared with GDP (which average must reach 3% of GDP by 2010 in Europe, according to the Lisbon strategy, see the related IPR-Helpdesk news item referred here above).

Information about the results of the "Brain Drain Study" concerning the international mobility of scientists is also published
