Opinions of the AG in four cases before the ECJ on the legal protection of databases

On 8 June 2004, the Advocate General (AG) Stix-Hackl delivered her opinion on four cases, among which "The British Horseracing Board v William Hill" case, before the European Court of Justice (ECJ).

These proceedings deal with the problem of whether Directive 96/9/EC on the legal protection of databases protects not only existing data but also data created by the maker of a database. They concern the so-called sui generis right and its scope in the area of sporting bets.
