A report on European plant biotechnology with a vision towards 2025 has been presented

Considering the important role that biotechnology can play in addressing major future problems such as population growth and increased food demand, as well as environmental issues, a group of leading representatives from research, the food and biotech industry, the farming community and consumer organisations have presented a "vision paper" dealing with European plant biotechnology with a vision towards 2025 to European Research Commissioner Philippe Busquin.

The vision paper, whose title is "Plants for the future - A European vision for plant genomics and biotechnology towards 2025", includes a general overview of the related issues, information concerning international developments, and concrete proposals on the future strategy to be adopted in Europe for the development of this sector.
