Belgium. The Council of Ministers wants the Parliament to approve modifications to the Designs and Models Law
On 20 November 2002, the Council of Ministers decided to submit a Protocol (20 June 2002) on the modification of the Benelux Uniform Law in matters of designs and models to the approval of the national Parliament.
The main purposes of the Protocol are to adapt the Benelux Uniform Law to the Directive 98/71/EC of the 13 October 1998 on the legal protection of designs, to establish a mandatory register of designs or models, and to complete and correct some sections.
The Directive had to be implemented before 28 October 2001, and on 1 July 2002, the European Commission asked, ten Member States, including Belgium, to do so.
